Each reminder comes as a notification at its time. Turn on “Also remind me when Reminders is closed” below to get them even when Reminders isn’t open.

With sync on, your reminders are the same on all your devices. Each device reminds you once notifications are turned on there.

To remind you while it’s closed, Reminders sends its server your reminders locked so that only this device can read them, with the times they’re due and your time zone. More about this. Turning it off, or deleting all data, removes them from the server.

This deletes Reminders's data from its server and turns off sync on this device. Your data stays on this device. Your other devices keep theirs, but stop syncing.

Back up your data

A backup is a file with everything Reminders saves. Lock it with a passphrase so only you can open it.

Keep the passphrase somewhere safe, like a password manager. Without it the backup can’t be opened, not even by us.

At least 12 characters. A few random words work well.

Or download a plain copy without a passphrase. Anyone who gets that file can read it.
